Our expeditions are designed to not only show you some of the most spectacular behaviour seen anywhere in the animal kingdom, but also to educate you in all aspects of white shark behaviour seen at Seal Island.

Great White Breaching

Seal Island has become world famous for it's breaching great whites that hunt some of the 64000 Cape Fur Seals that occur here. Documentaries such as Discovery Channels Air Jaws 1&2, National Geographic's 25 Year anniversary of Jaws and BBC's Wildlife specials have all been filmed with us at Seal Island.

Nowhere else on earth can natural predation be seen on such a regular basis involving great white sharks and their natural prey.

Your expedition starts in the Naval port of Simonstown a former Royal Navy Port. Accommodation is in loft style apartments overlooking False Bay and less than 2 minutes walk to our departure moorings

Simonstown is also home to a penguin colony of more than 2000 birds and is less than 20 minutes drive from Cape Point nature reserve, set at the South Western tip of Africa

Each morning we head out to Seal Island and await the David and Goliath encounters that take place here each day. Natural observation is the best way to view this and using more than a decades shark-guiding experience we will place you in the best position to witness these gladiatorial encounters at close hand.

After a few hours natural observation, a shape discrimination study will take place where we tow our famous seal decoys to see what response they will elicit. This sometimes culminates in spectacular breaches. We do this for around an hour so as not to condition the sharks to our decoys or interfere with their behaviour

After the decoy work we anchor up in the best possible position and attract the sharks up our boat using sound and small quantities of crushed sardines (no mammal products are used). Once the sharks are around our boat data is collected to learn more about these sharks and their movements as well as learning more about their personalities.

Lunch is available on board at any time but hopefully the action taking place around you will distract you from unimportant necessities such as eating.

We depart from the island each day at around 14h00 weather dependant, however if there is something special going on we will stay longer.

White Shark Hunting

On the way to and from the island we regularly sight dolphins of two species, three species of whale, penguins and a multitude of other bird species.

During the course of your stay with us we give slide shows and should weather cancel a days shark work we provide tours for you to many of the famous sights of Cape Town including Table Mountain, the Stellenbosch wine route and Cape Point.

Our expeditions will hopefully enrich your lives by you getting to know what incredible creatures great white sharks actually are as well as getting to understand all aspects of hunting behaviour that we see at Seal Island.

White Shark Breaching

We have an average of 7/10 days at sea during each expedition. Please note that tailor made trips can be organised for shorter or longer periods of time as well.

We also offer free-dives with mako and blue sharks which in an incredible experience for the real shark lover and adventurer. Also on offer are professionally guided safari tours to the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park (famous for it's black manned lions), Etosha National Park (scene of several National Geographic documentaries) and various world class parks in Botswana.

Combined tours of all three expeditions, the great whites, mako & blue sharks & a guided safari can be booked through us.
