Cage Diving - Summary of The Trip
Meeting is at the Shark Lady Adventures crew house just up from the Harbour. There may be 2 trips running depending on how busy the season is. Here you will register, and have fresh percolated coffee and continental breakfast. A short safety briefing will follow, and then it is a short walk down to the boat 'Lady T'. The boat ride to the area known as Shark Alley is approx 20 minutes where the floating Shark Cage will be attached. The experienced crew will scatter a scent trail into the water to attract the White Sharks which are sometimes circling 'Shark Alley' for seals. Our bait consists of natural marine products such as fish oil and tuna. During this time, the crew will prepare the first guests assisting them into their wet suits, and diving equipment that is provided. These include diving masks, hoods, snorkel, and boots and then into the Shark Cage.
Depending on currents and weather there may be a waiting period to see the sharks from 2 minutes to 2 hours or in extreme circumstances not at all but this is rare. The first four divers are assisted into the cage that is suspended on the water surface and tied alongside the boat. The skipper will hover just above the cage and signal which direction the sharks are coming from, as well as assist divers with any possible matters that arise, particularly if they are uncomfortable and wish to exit the cage.
