Great White Shark Cage Diving - Summary of the Trip

Great White Shark

White Shark Ecoventures invites you cage diving with great white sharks in the aptly named"Shark Alley", near the town of Gansbaai, South Africa.

Sharks are quite possibly the world's most feared animals. From the smallest sand shark to the enormous whale shark, they are sleek, powerful, and some are almost as agile as dolphins. There is no doubt that they are the most evolved predators in the ocean. Row upon row of teeth and capable of sensing the blood of an injured animal from over a kilometre away, its not surprising that they are the most feared creature beneath the waves.

This is your opportunity to dive and meet a Great White Shark face to face and on your own terms. Its an education and you will soon learn that this magnificent creature is in fact, highly misunderstood. It is a creature which should be more respectful than fearful and if you spend some quality time with them you will quickly learn why.

Arrive at the office early morning for a light airline style breakfast with coffee and juice whilst listening to the dive briefing regarding the happenings of the day. Once the paperwork and briefing has been finalised, you will head down to the harbour which is a 5 minute drive. Should you have your own car all you need to do is follow the shark diving bus from the crew house. Board the boat for the 20 minute boat ride out to the anchoring point. On arrival the crew will start chumming the water and once the sharks are around the boat the cage will be put into the water and cage diving will commence.

Sharks are surface feeders by nature, ensuring spectacular surface action which often takes place very close to the cage and boat. Surface viewers can watch from the upper deck which offers an excellent viewing perspective.

From the safety of the boat, you are able to photograph your friend/s in the cage and at the same time follow the sharks as they move around the boat and cage.

Morning Trip

4:30 - Pick up from Cape Town Address (If shuttle from Cape Town is booked)

7:00 - Meet at Shark Diving crew house in Kleinbaai – Breakfast & Briefing

8:00 - Launch from Kleinbaai harbour – 15 minute boat ride to site

8:15 - Estimated 3-4 hours at sea for the shark dive tour (All gear included and drinks & snacks on the boat

12:00 - Return to harbour and up to the crew house

12:15 - Light lunch whilst watching video of the day.(Option to purchase DVD @ R350 per copy)

13:00 - Finished at the crew house & Return to Cape Town

15:30 - Arrive in Cape Town

Afternoon Trip (Only if there are enough clients to run 2 trips)

8:00 - Pick up from Cape Town Address (If shuttle from Cape Town is booked)

The Boat - Megladon II

Megladon - White Shark Ecoventures Boat

Megalodon II is a 11 x 3.8 meter catamaran designed to take no more than 25 passengers per tour. The boat is fully licensed to SA marine safety standards as a passenger vessel.

The boat, cage and life-raft are inspected on an annual basis, ensuring maximum safety for all passengers and to comply with the strict safety standards of the industry.

The Cage

White Shark Ecoventures Cage

The cage is a securely structured, galvanized, 5-man reinforced steel cage. It has a convenient port hole for easy photography as well as clearance above the surface allowing divers to effectively communicate with the Dive Master on the boat. The diving method used is mostly breath hold and occasionally the Hookah system (long hose with air) may be used in the winter months if the visibility and conditions are good and this is pre-booked.

The Cage dimensions are; 2.3m high, 3.0m in length and 1.0m in width. The cage has been carefully designed for the safety of the diver/s as well as the animal. You will therefore find no sharp edges around the cage, ensuring that the sharks are not harmed in any way. The cage is replaced annually and is inspected by authorities on a regular basis.

Why go through such a long day on the boat and road. Many people regret not staying over in Gansbaai the night before or after the shark dive. The round trip on road is 5 hours and with 4 hours on sea and an additional 2 hours at the crew house this works out to be an exhausting day especially for the driver.

Option 1: Standard Dive & Stay

· Great White Shark Cage Dive

This suite is situated in the rear section of the building and is not round in shape like the others. It boasts living area with a bed/couch, TV (with Satellite), Stereo, bar fridge and Tea & Coffee Facilities. The bedroom can accommodate for either a king size bed or twin beds with a lovely on-suite bathroom. The bathroom has a built in shower & bath with hand-made rustic bathroom fittings. This room can accommodate for 3 people with the bed/couch.

**Option 2: Luxury Dive & Stay (*just R100 per person more)**

· Accommodation for 1 night in Luxury suite @ The Roundhouse Guesthouse

These suites are situated at the bottom of the house with their own living room, bedroom and bathroom. The bathrooms are very spacious with built-in showers and corner baths with hand-made rustic bathroom fittings. The living rooms boast TV(Satellite), Stereo, Mini-bar fridge, Tea & Coffee facilities. The living room walls have a hatch between the living room and Bedroom so you can tilt the TV towards the bedroom and watch TV in bed. The carpeted bedrooms are spacious and beds can be arranged to accommodate for two people sharing (twin) or a couple (King size beds). These suites have exquisite finishes with Quartz clad round wall contrasting with rough earthy walls.

**Option 3: Executive Dive & Stay (*just R200 per person more)**

· Accommodation for 1 night in Executive suite @ The Roundhouse Guesthouse

· Great White Shark Cage Dive

This suite is our largest and most luxurious suite. It is also the only suite with a sea view. This suite has been decorated with ultra luxury and African feel in mind. The lounge boasts a big plasma screen television with a DVD and surround sound system for your personal entertainment and relaxation. The screen can swivel 360 degrees through the wall so that you can watch television from the lounge as well as main bedroom and bathroom. This is a wonderful design that you will only experience at The Roundhouse. The lounge has comfortable seating for 4 people with a great sea view over the bay. The kitchenette unit in the lounge has a mini bar fridge, prep bowl, microwave, coffee and tea facilities as well as a full set of cutlery and crockery, bread board and toaster. To the right of the lounge you will find the main bedroom with its bathroom. As said you can watch your plasma screen television from your bedroom as well as your bathroom. The bedroom is large and the beds can be split into two very comfortable single beds otherwise a huge King size bed. The suite also has a walk in cupboard that includes a vanity area with a big mirror, counter top and stool. The carpeted floor creates warmth and luxury whilst the finer detail such rough textured paint on the walls and stone clad features truly creates the African feel. The bedroom and living room lights work with dimmer switches so that you can set the mood. The main bedroom's on-suite bathroom includes a jet spa bath and stone clad shower. The bathroom's decor is solid natural stone along with smooth features to create and extremely luxurious African feel. Toiletries such as body lotion, liquid soap, bubble bath, shampoo and a hair dryer are supplied.
