New to Gansbaai we are now offering White Shark Breaching trips combined with Great White Shark Cage Diving. There is a very high level of activity of Great White Sharks in Gansbaai around Dyer Island and Geyser Rock and close to Shark Alley. We also have a colony of 60,000 seals on Geyser rock. These seals have to eat and every morning come back from their fishing to the island. What is different from Seal Island is that there are many other locations around the island where the sharks predate on Seals and not one hotspot like that by Seal Island. From last years trips the crew have found some good areas around the island where predation and breaching activity is good. Seal Island in False bay is the prime place to see the Great White Sharks breaching and predating on seals but these trips are in heavy demand and often fully booked during the peak season from May - Sepember.
Due to the high demand to see these beautiful animals launch out of the water we have created a special combination trip which will combine White Shark Breaching (Air Jaws) followed by the shark cage diving. This is a much longer trip than the standard cage diving trip and it should be packed with excitement and awesome shark action. For the shark lovers this would be the ultimate day trip to see the Great White Sharks in Gansbaai.

Summary of the day

Due to the timing of the shark activity this trip is only available early morning. The Sharks hunt the seals at first light so this will be an early start to the day. We are 2 hours from Cape Town so it is advisable to stay overnight the night before to make the most of your trip. This is a very special trip so worth staying over and being fresh in the morning. From July - December we have our Whale season and De Kelders where our Guesthouse is siutuated is the best place in the world for viewing the Whales close to the rocks (no boat needed!)
We will meet at 6:00am at the crew house (Times may vary due to time of sunrise) for breakfast and breifing. It will still be dark then and the excitement will be boiling over waiting for the sun to rise over the water.

After the breakfast and breifing we will walk down to the boat. The launch and trip to the island will be exciting with all of the expectations for the trip geting closer and closer. The cage will be dropped by the island and anchored in place before setting off around the island in search for Great White Sharks hunting the seals.
Whilst looking for the predations we will tow a fake seal behind the boat (rubber cutout) which will look like a lone seal swimming after the boat. A hunting shark will see this and immediately have a close look and if it decides to attack the seal then we will be in for an amazing spectacle of this massive predator right out of the water only 20 yards behind the boat.
Cameras must at all times be ready and fingers on the triggers as a Great White Shark breach lasts only 2-3 seconds and then it is all over. It is an intense moment and is always a shock when this massive animal shoots out of the water. Even the experienced crew shout with amazement each time this happens.
After the breaching and predation activity we will return to the cage where there are more than likely sharks around. It should not take long after anchoring until the sharks are around the boat and cage and then it is time to jump into the wetsuits and into the cage. The next 2 hours will be spent watching the sharks around the boat and diving in the cage within inches from the Great White Sharks.

When everyone has had at least 2 dives and are happy the boat will return back to the harbour. There is a videographer on the boat filming the experience and after your trip you will be able to relive the trip again whilst enjoying a light lunch and hot coffee. The DVD of the day is available for sale.
DATES OF CURRENT BOOKINGS WITH AVAILABILITIES. These dates are current trips and should you wish to book on another date we will open up a trip and then work on filling the spaces to run the trip. If we do not manage to achieve the minimum number of people to run a breaching and cage diving trip then we will run a Standard Shark Cage Diving trip for R1350 per person.
