Summary of the day

Shuttle package clients will be collected from your Hotel first thing in the morning. After a 2 - 2 1/2 hour drive through to Gansbaai from Cape Town you will arrive at the crew house. Guests that decide to stay over to avoid the 5 hour return journey on the same day can wake up much later and it is only 5 minutes away from the Roundhouse! Breakfast will be served at the crew house and you will receive the briefing about the day. 

You will then take a short walk down to Kleinbaai harbour where all 8 shark diving boats are based. There is a videographer on the trip filming the experience and you can buy this on DVD after your trip. 

From here there is a short 15 minute ride out to Dyer Island (In the winter) or just off the beach (in the summer months) where we will find a suitable spot to work with the sharks and anchor.

The crew will immediately start chumming the water with fish based products such as tuna and fish oil. This creates a slick which drifts with the current and this shiny oily tail is easy to spot from the boat. The chum trail will be aimed towards reefs and areas where the Great White Sharks are known to swim and hopefully we will get lucky quickly. Sharks can smell 1 part of blood in 1 million parts of water but the sharks must obviously pass through the chum slick to smell the scent. This is where we rely on the skill of the crew to position the boat in relation to the current and wind.  A Tuna head will be thrown in as well as a fake seal 'decoy'

Once the chum is in the water we must just wait for the first shark to arrive! This could take 2 minutes, 2 hours or in the worst case not at all. The Great White Shark is a wild animal and we are dealing with nature but we have a 99% success rate throughout the year with shark viewings. Once the shark is around the boat divers will kit up and then jump in the cage! 

No experience is necessary and you can decide to go in the cage when out at sea so there is no pressure. All divers will take turns in the cage and it will only take 4 cage rotations for everyone to dive. This means that you will have ample opportunity to go back into the cage and spend lots of time with the Great White Sharks face to face in their domain. The boat based viewing is exceptional and if you do not want to go in the cage you will still have a memorable day with these beautiful and awesome animals! If you decide to brave it and go in you can be rest assured that you can get out of the cage at any time and the crew will quickly help you out.

Following this ultimate experience with the sharks if the conditions permit we will pass through the famous Shark Alley where on Geyser rock there is a 60,000 strong seal colony. Following this we will ride back to the harbour and enjoy coffee and tea at the crew house whilst watching the Video of the Day. You will have the opportunity to buy this on DVD for an additional R350 per copy.

For those of you booked on the full package with shuttle transfer from Cape Town you will then board the bus and will be dropped back of at your Hotel / Accommodation late afternoon. For those who decide to stay over in Gansbaai then you are the lucky ones able to enjoy the stunning and safe surroundings. From June - December over 200 Whales are in the bay only yards from the rocks. This is a Whale Sanctuary and we are gifted with the worlds best land based Whale watching. This is a very special place and this experience is truly amazing!

Please note that this is just a rough guideline and that the times are confirmed each day before the dive. On busy days there will be 2 or possibly 3 trips depending on operator.

Morning Trip

5:30 - Pick up from Cape Town Address (If shuttle from Cape Town is booked)

8:00 - Meet at Shark Diving crew house in Kleinbaai – Breakfast & Briefing

9:00 - Launch from Kleinbaai harbour – 15 minute boat ride to site

9:15 - Estimated 3-4 hours at sea for the shark dive tour (All gear included and drinks & snacks on the boat

13:00 - Return to harbour and up to the crew house

13:15 - Light lunch whilst watching video of the day.(Option to purchase DVD @ R350 per copy)

14:00 - Finished at the crew house & Return to Cape Town

16:30 - Return to Cape Town

If there are 2 trips then at the end of the trip the crew will leave the cage anchored in the water with bait inside to hopefully keep the sharks around the cage for the 2nd trip.

Why go through such a long day on the boat and road. Many people regret not staying over in Gansbaai the night before or after the shark dive. The round trip on road is 5 hours and with 4 hours on sea and an additional 2 hours at the crew house this works out to be an exhausting day especially for the driver.

This suite is situated in the rear section of the building and is not round in shape like the others. It boasts living area with a bed/couch, TV (with Satellite), Stereo, bar fridge and Tea & Coffee Facilities. The bedroom can accommodate for either a king size bed or twin beds with a lovely on-suite bathroom. The bathroom has a built in shower & bath with hand-made rustic bathroom fittings. This room can accommodate for 3 people with the bed/couch.

These suites are situated at the bottom of the house with their own living room, bedroom and bathroom. The bathrooms are very spacious with built-in showers and corner baths with hand-made rustic bathroom fittings. The living rooms boast TV(Satellite), Stereo, Mini-bar fridge, Tea & Coffee facilities. The living room walls have a hatch between the living room and Bedroom so you can tilt the TV towards the bedroom and watch TV in bed. The carpeted bedrooms are spacious and beds can be arranged to accommodate for two people sharing (twin) or a couple (King size beds). These suites have exquisite finishes with Quartz clad round wall contrasting with rough earthy walls.

This suite is our largest and most luxurious suite. It is also the only suite with a sea view. This suite has been decorated with ultra luxury and African feel in mind. The lounge boasts a big plasma screen television with a DVD and surround sound system for your personal entertainment and relaxation. The screen can swivel 360 degrees through the wall so that you can watch television from the lounge as well as main bedroom and bathroom. This is a wonderful design that you will only experience at The Roundhouse. The lounge has comfortable seating for 4 people with a great sea view over the bay. The kitchenette unit in the lounge has a mini bar fridge, prep bowl, microwave, coffee and tea facilities as well as a full set of cutlery and crockery, bread board and toaster. To the right of the lounge you will find the main bedroom with its bathroom. As said you can watch your plasma screen television from your bedroom as well as your bathroom. The bedroom is large and the beds can be split into two very comfortable single beds otherwise a huge King size bed. The suite also has a walk in cupboard that includes a vanity area with a big mirror, counter top and stool. The carpeted floor creates warmth and luxury whilst the finer detail such rough textured paint on the walls and stone clad features truly creates the African feel. The bedroom and living room lights work with dimmer switches so that you can set the mood. The main bedroom's on-suite bathroom includes a jet spa bath and stone clad shower. The bathroom's decor is solid natural stone along with smooth features to create and extremely luxurious African feel. Toiletries such as body lotion, liquid soap, bubble bath, shampoo and a hair dryer are supplied.
