Shark Cage Diving - Durban
The soft cage diving experience as a vital way to connect non divers with healthy shark populations. This trip is intended to increase the level of focus, awareness and compassion the public have for sharks. The Shark Cage Diving is not anything like that in Gansbaai as the Black Tip sharks are very placid and easy to dive with. The Soft cage provides an obstructive barrier between the divers and sharks but should divers be comfortable in the water then you will have a chance to snorkel outside the cage with these strikingly beautiful sharks.
A typical "soft" shark cage dive involves getting into a wetsuit, donning a mask and snorkel and climbing into a floating soft cage with between 5 and 30 sharks gliding gracefully by, the cage walls. Due to the fact that there are mainly Blacktip sharks around the reefs, you are indeed allowed to get out of your cage and interact with these amazing, serene creatures. There has never been a recorded attack on a human by this species of shark.

The Cage
Shark cage diving typically involves diving in heavy metal cages specifically targeting large Great White Sharks. In the warmer waters of KZN Natal, different species of shark can be found on our cage dive like Blacktip sharks, Dusky Sharks, Spinner Sharks. Because these species are smaller than the Great White Shark and their main diet consists of small schooling fish, a much lighter "soft" shark cage can be used. There is even the option of getting out of the shark cage for a true shark interactive and unforgettable shark cage diving experience. The cage is fastened to the boat with one of the ropes and then floats on the surface by means of a flotation ring running across the top. Divers will enter this ring and drop down into the protected netted area. Weights keep the net rigid and allow the divers to move around freely inside the cage to watch the sharks.
