Dyer Island is famous for its Great White Sharks and as most know the reason there is so much Great White Shark activity in the area is mainly because of Dyer Islands Penguins and Geyser Islands massive population of Cape Fur Seals. The Great White Sharks patrol the perimeters of the vast kelp fields of the area and through 'Shark Alley'. Cape Fur Seals are however completely safe from Great White Sharks when swimming inside the kelp fields as the Great White Sharks are not comfortable in this environment. Therefore the many kelp fields around Dyer and Geyser Islands offer an excellent playground for the Cape Fur Seals and Penguins.

For non-qualified divers, a basic Discover Scuba Diver course is available, approx 2 hours in a local swimming pool, with a certified instructor, which will enable any confident novice to enjoy the seal dive under the direct supervision of an instructor, to a maximum of 12m.
