White Shark Projects has an excellent reputation for personal involvement and care. Our ethical stand with regarding sharks and people is well known and respected. You as our guest and friend can be absolutely confident that we will do our best for you in all aspects of your trip.

Dyer Island, just off the coast of Gansbaai, is the breeding ground of the Jackass Penguin and home to a wide variety of marine bird life. It's close neighbour, Geyser Island is home to some 60 000 Cape Fur Seals! It is no wonder that the passage between these two island forms the infamous 'Shark Alley' and creates an obvious feeding ground for the endangered Great White Shark!

We are humble and grateful for the privilege and opportunity to work with one of the earth's greatest predators face to face, causing no harm, but furthering and enhancing the chances of survival of this rare species. Everything we do, we aim to do in harmony with nature and the environment we work in. Come and experience the magic of the Great White Shark by shark cage diving.

Here, in the heart of the world's Great White Shark mecca we offer a unique diving opportunity for you to witness the wonder of the Great White Shark. These gliding torpedoes of power serve as the focus of White Shark Projects, a renowned global research organisation founded in 1989 and totally dedicated to their conservation.

White Shark Projects takes you on an adrenalin surging adventure experience that will leave you in awe of these magnificent ocean predators.

Your day begins with a scenic transfer from door to door, a scrumptious buffet breakfast at 'White Shark Lodge' followed by the excitement of the launch and a full adrenalin packed day at sea around Dyer Island and Geyser Rock - an area famous for its aptly named channel 'Shark Alley' and inundated with African Jackass Penguins, Cape Fur Seals and Southern Right Whales ! (In season September to December)

Watch as chum clouds the water and we wait for the first dorsal fin to appear, anticipation mounts as the cage is gently lowered and guests ready themselves for that first, electric encounter. It's that once in a lifetime rush as the solitude of the sea encases you and you come face to face with one of the most powerful predators on earth. Shark cage diving in South Africa is high adventure and an experience that will leave you breathless !

To dive and view white sharks in a safe and professional environment is a privilege that 'White Shark Projects' has enjoyed for many years.

At the White Shark Projects crew house you will find a cosy but well stocked souvenir shop. Here you can buy anything from seasickness tablets to shark t-shirts. As an alternative we recommend that you stop at The Great White Adventure Centre. This is the first building as you enter Gansbaai. At the centre you can buy underwater disposable cameras, rent an underwater digital camera and more. This shop has a huge selection of white shark souvenirs for you to remember your day by. One souvenir that is only available from White Shark Projects though is of course your day trip DVD. The DVD can be purchased after the trip at a cost of R350-00.

White Shark Projects clients enjy a comfortable day on our custom built 36 ft, 4 tonne white shark dive catamaran, 'Shark Team'. We limit her 30 passenger capacity to 20 plus crew to ensure your comfort and viewing pleasure throughout your adventure experience.

Sharks are usually wary at first and we wait a while for them to settle and then lower the dive cage. Our first guests enter the cage (takes 4 - 5 people) and spend about 20 minutes face to face with the sharks !

We will work with individual sharks and you can enjoy topside viewing during your wait as shark activity is often close to the surface. In fact Great Whites are also known for their 'spy hopping' - breaching right out of the water in pursuit of prey ! Topside viewing can yield a lot of those action shots !

We provide all necessary diving and safety equipment for you to enjoy your cage diving experience in South Africa in comfort and security. The dive gear supplied is a 7 ml wetsuit (ranging from sizes Small to 4 XL) with booties and hoodie plus mask. We make use of the breath hold method and this has proven to be the best method. We only ask that you bring suntan lotion, cap and sunglasses, a warm jersey/jacket and of course, a swimming suit and towel. If you know you are prone to motion sickness or even if you are unsure if you are, we advise you take medication before we depart so as not to spoil your adventure ! And last tip - don't forget your camera !

The Marine Living Resources Act (Act 18 of 1998) controls the exploitation of marine plants and animals in South African waters. There are a small number of regulations that pertain to sharks, most but not all of which are summarised below. The great white shark is totally protected; in 1991 South Africa being the first country in the world to do so. If caught or killed unintentionally, a white shark must be kept in a whole state and handed over to a fisheries officer. No white shark, part or product thereof may be sold. In 2005, the whale shark and the basking shark were added to the prohibited species list .

At White Shark Projects we believe in conservation thorugh creating an awareness of sharks. We encourage our clients to spread the message, and make a difference.

Social development is as important to White Shark Projects as conserving the sharks and our marine environment. Without healthy development in local communities, our business is neither responsible nor sustainable. Our commitment to social upliftment goes further than providing equitable employment; it extends into the social fabric of the local Masekhane community.

One of our most recent projects is the Masekhane/White Shark Projects swop shop. It combines conservation, social improvement and education in a unique way. The children of Masekhane collect bottles, tins, plastics and other recyclables and bring them in bags to the White Shark 'Swop Shop'. In return, they earn buying points that they 'spend' in the shop to buy things such as pencils, books, calculators and more.
