He will teach you all about the biology, ecology, behaviour and conservation of the great white shark during 2 evening lectures. Other Dives Available
SCUBA DIVING WITH SHARK DIVING UNLIMTED. Shark Diving Unlimited is the only PADI registered diving operator in Gansbaai. We can therefore offer qualified divers the opportunity to experience the wonderland of kelp forests, the rich marine life of Dyer Island and dive the legendary wreck of the Birkenhead!
KELP DIVES: R650.00 This is a fun dive in Kelp beds (Ecklonia maxima) that stand up to 12m tall and row at an astonishing 1.2cm a day. The forest is spectacular and hides many creatures including crustaceans, octopus and small sharks. Divers reach a maximum of 12m so it is ideal for novice divers. You may spot Cape fur seals, Puffadder shyshark, Pyjama catshark, Leopard catshark, Spotted gully sharks, Galjoen, Hottentot, Crayfish and other invertebrates.
CAPE FUR SEAL DIVES: ZAR800.00 The seal colony on Geyser rock numbers between 50,000 and 60,000! The Cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) is an underwater acrobat. This sociable animal provides a fun and safe way to experience one of the larger creatures of the sea. Divers descend to a maximum of 3 meters and are free to interact with the seals, but may not make physical contact.
BIRKENHEAD WRECK DIVE: ZAR 800.00 The wreck of the HMS Birkenhead lies at a depth of 30m, off Gansbaai's aptly named Danger Point. This dive is for experienced divers as strong currents are often encountered. This English frigate sank in the dead of night, all the women were put on to the lifeboats and the term "Women and children first" was coined. Many soldiers were taken that night by hungry sharks, and the white sharks gained their local nickname 'Tommi haai' (Tommy shark - after the English "Tommy' soldiers).
DYER ISLAND: ZAR 1200.00 The dive is for experienced divers as the dive varies between 10-25m. The reefs that surround Dyer Island provide a focus point for some of the areas predators, Yellowtail, Puffadder shyshark, Pyjama catshark, Leopard catshark, skates and rays and octopus, as well as some of the larger species of shark like Sevengill cowshark, Soupfin shark and Bronze whaler. Great white sharks may also be encountered. |
