Sharks & Seal Diving

*Please check before booking how the Seven Gill Cow Shark Sightings have been* The Sharks move around a lot to please ensure you check if we have been seeing sharks. If the Seven Gill Cow Sharks are not around then the dive will be 1 x Kelp Dive with lots of small shark sightings normally and 1 x Seal Dive.

This dive is a very special one in a stunning setting under the Cape Peninsula mountain range set in a small protected stony cove. This is the one of the only places in the world where you can dive with these rarely seen sharks.

Seven Gill Cow Sharks look prehistoric and slow and docile but they are formidable predators of seals, other sharks and fish. They are branded as “wolves of the sea” because of their cooperative hunting behaviour which is a rarity among sharks. The sharks are concentrated in very small areas and we will do our best to show you this ancient shark.

Seven Gill Cow Sharks look prehistoric and slow and docile but they are formidable predators of seals, other sharks and fish. They are branded as “wolves of the sea” because of their cooperative hunting behaviour which is a rarity among sharks. The sharks are concentrated in very small areas and if you miss the spot then you will not see one so we will try our best.

On this beautiful dive we can see up to 6 species of shark, many of which can only be seen in South Africa. These are Seven Gill Cow Sharks, Spotted Gully Sharks, Puffadder Shysharks, Dark shy sharks, Pajama Catsharks and Leopard Catsharks. We also commonly see the egg cases of some of these sharks on our dives, sometimes even with the squirming shark pup inside.

After the stunning kelp forest dive we will move up the coast a little and enjoy a wonderful and playful dive with the Cape Fur Seals. This is a fun dive with up to 40 agile and energetic seals at a time.

Habitat

The sharks and seals are found in between the kelp forests of the Cape peninsular in False Bay in a Marine Protected Area. Here the ecosystem is healthy as it is a protected area and there are an abundance and diversity of a variety of fish, shellfish and soft corals. The dive site is very sheltered but can be surgy when there are swells but mostly this is in the summer months.

This was a special dive in beautiful Kelp Forests and many sharks! The Cow sharks are amazingly relaxed and easy to dive with and not scary at all. The water was a little cold but the dive itself was so good that I would do it again no matter how cold it was!

Dave Caravias

This was one of the best dives I have ever done! It is easy, Shallow and the sharks come extremely close which makes it an exhilarating dive. The Seals are just amazing and fun to dive with 🙂 Morne is fantastic and this is a must do dive!
